The programme is designed to provide practice-oriented education to enable students to pursue careers as an Urban Designer. Urban Designers are trained to operate in such built environment sectors as housing, transport, non-motorised transport networks and facilities, public and open spaces, retail precincts and recreational facilities. This they do on a metropolitan, regional, local or district scale, providing spatial frameworks, structure plans, and site layouts. Urban Designers can furthermore influence policies and guidelines for urban and regional development, informing urban growth. Urban Design therefore has the significant role of unifying the built environment, providing a framework for future development or structure within existing urban environments.
