eLearning Mini Workshop
Each semester, TLU organises the “eLearning Mini-Workshops” to support new and experienced lecturers on the basics and advanced usage of the eLearning platform MyNUST eLearning. The sessions in these mini workshops are subdivided in 5 weeks, one session per week. These sessions focus on technology and pedagogy through MyNUST eLearning system, including the eLearning implementation strategy named “Web Presence Categorisation”.
TLU offer this twice a year at the beginning of every semester. The dates of the workshops can be found in the academic annual calendar. Before we start with the mini workshops, we usually send out an email to all. If you don’t receive an email you must contact: tlu@nust.na.

Great Teachers Workshop
The Great Teachers Workshop is a great opportunity for lecturers to reflect individually and collectively on what is really happening in their classrooms and why students are still failing in masses. It is also an opportunity for lecturers to share with others why their students are passing. Unfortunately, we still have cases where 70% and above (90% in some cases) of students fail to pass their courses. The worst scenario is that in some of these courses, students keep failing over the years without improvement at all; we have the statistics showing these cases. The fact is, in education or any other sector, if you keep doing the same things over and over you will get the same results.
At the GTW we usually analyze the reasons why students fail and what we can do about it. Most significant to mention is that NUST has the lowest lecturer-students ratio (1 to 19) compared to other universities in the region. The gatekeeper courses contradict the benefits such a ratio holds for the university. Therefore, we encourage the Deans, Associate Deans and the HODs to identify lecturers teaching these gatekeeper courses to attend the GTW and together to work as a team to eradicate this problem at NUST. Discussions of the strategic importance of the use of technology to enhance student learning experience by maximizing the learning time as stipulated in all the programmes’ curricula at NUST.

eLearning For Lecturers:
The main charge of e-Learning activities is to encourage the development of new teaching opportunities with technology. The increased use of E-learning components across the curriculum promotes student familiarity with technology and helps manage course delivery in different ways. These E-learning components are part of classroom-based classes, hybrid classes, or fully on-line courses. Training academic staff in practices related to E-learning instruction and assessment is necessary to facilitate the effective use of technology. Increased student demand for computer lab access will have to be thoroughly assessed and be commensurate with the expansion of e-learning into new areas.
