The initiative is a part of a campaign to raise awareness about rhino poaching and effects on the environment. Garbers spent several days at a local habitat, riding in areas with rhinos until Shawn Van Eeden a photographer, managed to take the perfect picture.
After this, he posted the picture on social media, challenging other riders to follow-suit. His hopes are that by doing this, he brings more attention to the plight of these endangered species. The challenge is trending under the #flair4rhinoschallenge
During the challenge, Garbers partnered with the Rhino Momma Project, a non-profit organisation that was established to protect rhinos, with a particular focus on breeding. The main objective is to repopulate the animals.
Another partner of the project is Red Bull and Garbers has been a Red Bull BMX rider for several years, participating in several international competitions. These include, the Durban BMX Getto Jam Competition and the South African National Age Group Series.
He says although he is passionate about sport and he will be a rider for as long as possible, his mind is also set on becoming a Land Surveyor.
