Highlights of Dr Naomab’s 100 days in office

Today officially marked the NUST Vice-Chancellor’s 100th day in office. Dr Erold Naomab was appointed on 01 January 2021 as the head of the Institution, and he hit the ground running on 13 January 2021, when the University opened for the academic year. In this special edition of the NUST Brief, we reflect on some of the highlights of his tenure, during this brief period, in line with the institutional goals.

Building a Vibrant and Engaging Learning Environment

Ohangwena Campus

Plans are underway to establish a NUST campus in the Ohangwena Region, with the aim to enhance the skills of residents in the area, as well as widen the University’s footprint. Recently, Dr Naomab visited the region to assess the facilities that have been availed by the local authorities for the envisaged campus. The tour also included courtesy calls to the Patron of the Ohangwena Campus, HE Hifikepunye Pohamba, and the Ovakwanyama Queen Mwadinomho Nelumbu, who have been instrumental in the initiation of this project. The first phase of the project, which includes the offering of a number of programmes, will be rolled-out in 2021. The fundraising campaign will soon be launched.

Driving Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Rietfontein Training Centre

NUST is in discussions with the National Youth Service (NYS), to explore areas of collaboration through utilising the Rietfontein Training Centre. The two parties are keen on sharing resources in the fields of agriculture, hospitality and vocational education. The Centre has a farm which is 1 616.23 hectares in size, amongst other facilities such as hostels, classrooms and a library. Dr Naomab and his delegation, toured the facilities and the delegates concluded that the next stage is to establish a steering committee to champion the project.
