CED takes business skills to the people

NUST’s Centre for Enterprise Development (CED), in collaboration with the Erongo Development Foundation, recently embarked on an entrepreneurship training for small business owners in the Erongo Region.

The Erongo Development Foundation was established in 1996 as a non-profit organisation, aimed at managing donor funding that is availed to address poverty in the region.

Through the entrepreneurship training made possible by CED and the Erongo Development foundation, eighty participants from Swakopmund, Omaruru, Karibib and Walvis Bay were able to sharpen their business skills. The training covered topics such as: Skills in costing and pricing of goods and services, offering exceptional customer service, and marketing.

“I really enjoyed the training on Tax. The trainer explained it very well and now I understand why it is important for our country when we pay tax,” said Wilhelm Itope, a manager at Lidamuna Trading, a carpentry company. “I learnt how to write my business plan and now I can confidently go and apply for a loan at the Bank,” said another participant, Desiree Goases, the owner of Dzire DG Trading Enterprises, an event decorating business.

CED’s SME Development Unit focuses on imparting relevant business management knowledge and skills to entrepreneurs, thus upholding NUST’s vision of educating leaders for the knowledge economy.

The Centre was established in 2000 to facilitate capacity building initiatives for the public and private sectors, through standardised and tailormade training initiatives, aimed at developing the Namibian labour force.
