Studying Without Borders
...EU Higher Education Fair hosted at NUST
Attended by a crowd of eager students, the European Union (EU) Higher Education Fair saw 14 exhibitors from various embassies and higher education institutions. The exhibitions ranged from showcasing undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities, as well as capacity-building and professional development programmes.
The Fair was officially opened by NUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Erold Naomab, who highlighted that the internationalisation of higher education is increasingly becoming a strategic policy objective of many universities, adding that “as education changes globally, the need to produce holistic graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to function in diverse cultural and competitive global contexts has increased”.
Hon Ms Edda Bohn, Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, said initiatives like the fair are not merely about offering education, but about empowering our youth. “They are about equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and global perspective essential to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.”
Attendees were also addressed by H.E Ms Ana-Beatriz Martins, the EU Ambassador to Namibia; and Hon Fenny Tutjavi, Member of Parliament.
More than a 100 beneficiaries
Over the past five years, NUST has sent more than 100 students and staff for exchanges to Europe through Erasmus+ mobilities, as well as participated in several EU member state mobilities, scholarships and educational programmes facilitated by the International Relations Office under the Department of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation.
The EU Higher Education Fair offered the opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships, create collaborative opportunities, and build new networks. NUST exchange students from various faculties shared their experiences with fellow students, from application, studies and cultural perspectives.
The speakers further urged universities to continue encouraging staff and students to pursue various opportunities offered through these partnerships in a collective quest to provide education fit for global citizens.
