Career Guidance Services

The NUST Career Guidance Services through proper planning and coordination provides career guidance and life skills in the form of Career guidance development workshops and programs as well as Career guidance counselling in order assist students to prepare a package in preparation for individual job-hunting efforts. It further provides information to enable students to develop skills in the relevant subject matters and to make informed decisions about their career choices.

 

CAREER GUIDANCE COUNSELLING

Provide individual and group counselling on Career guidance issues trough relevant and adequate information. This section incorporates effective and professional counselling as a helping relationship and also as a psychological intervention and enables its students to become career adaptable and, most importantly, employable.

 

Career Guidance Development Workshops

CV WRITING

The CV Writing Workshop focuses on assisting students to compile comprehensive and well-researched Curriculum Vitae, which reflects a clear and concise summary presentation of the applicant's educational background, work experiences and extra mural activities. The CV Writing Workshop consist of components such as cover and thank you letter writing Workshop consist of components such as cover and thank you letter writing, while job hunting skills consist of components such as interview preparations.

It aims at equipping the student with knowledge on how to write cover and thank you letters.

JOB-HUNTING SKILLS

Job-hunting skills are a pre-requisite in the never-ending quest for employment. Students are provided with the skills to penetrate the competitive world of employment.

(I) INTERVIEW PREPARATION

By conducting mock interviews, students get a sense of how a real interview will be conducted. It prepares students in terms of how to respond to possible interview questions, how to dress for an interview and body language.

CAREER FAIR

Career Fair is an annual event which provides a platform for the NUST students to meet prospective employers in Namibia. During the course of the academic year, Career Guidance Development Workshops are offered free of charge to assist students in terms of CV writing, Job hunting skills and interview preparations. During the Career Fair, students approach the Exhibitors for possible employment opportunities. The Career Fair also serves as a recruitment drive of high school students who are in grade 11 and 12 and who are interested to join the NUST, should they qualify.

MOCK INTERVIEWS

An impressive CV with a short and precise outline of one's life history will give one the edge to make the shortlist before anybody else, although the interview should of course sell the real you behind the piece of paper. Interviews gives one a chance to defend why one might be the best to be considered. Mock Interviews is a platform created for the students, to asses them and thereafter to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge with regard to interviews as there is no job that will be entered without attending an interview. The objective is to give students a sense of how a real interview will be conducted, prepare them about dress code, body language and how to respond to possible questions during the interview. The interviews are scheduled to take place in October of each academic year.

 

Career Orientation Day

Career choice will affect every aspect of one’s future lifestyle and that all boiled downs to getting the job one really wants”. Hence the Career Orientation Day in order to assist students to make informed career choices; to encourage students to u make use of free vocational counselling sessions available; to sensitize students about internships opportunities; to sensitize students about international exchange programs. Companies offering graduate recruitment programs are also invited to scout for talent during this event.
