WHAT WE DO
The Department of Corporate Strategy and Institutional Planning drives the delivery of the ISBP 2026–2030 through institutional research, data-informed planning, and stakeholder engagement, while embedding culture as a strategic enabler of institutional performance, inclusion, and impact.
We position data as strategic intelligence to support informed decision-making and strengthen the University’s contribution to NDP6 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
About Corporate Strategy
OUR WORK ENCOMPASSES THE FOLLOWING MAIN AREAS:
I. Long-Term Strategic Planning
- Coordinating the overall planning processes to create the NUST Strategic Plan.
- Aligning the internal planning processes to provide effective and well coordinated plans.
- Compiling the institutional five-year strategic plan in consultation with the NUST Community.
- Maintaining the University’s overall organisational structure.
II. Annual Planning
- Developing and communicating operational plans.
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the plans.
- Communicating targets and progress.
- Conducting quarterly fora to discuss trends within the institution and in higher education.
III. Data and Analysis
- Promoting standards of data quality (Collecting and validating data).
- Collecting, processing, retrieving and analysing data to produce and disseminate quality information products which are appropriate and useful during planning and decision-making processes.
- Providing technical advice and all other statistical services.
IV. Institutional Research
- Conducting institutional research to support planning, governance, management and performance within the University.
- Analysing trends in higher education.
- Benchmarking internationally

- Prepare the University’s self-study
- Facilitate long-term and annual strategic planning in consultation with the NUST community
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of plans
- Communicate targets and progress
- Coordinate the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) reporting
THE NUST STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS IS GUIDED BY THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES:
- Openness and honesty - information relevant to the process is shared freely in an environment that is open to all ideas.
- Transparency – the strategic planning process is followed as it is described in the Strategic Planning Guidelines.
- Inclusivity – the campus community participate through membership of the workgroups and involvement within respective departments, units and centres.
- Institutionally centered – personal and/or group interests are placed second to that of the institution.

- Collaborate with our stakeholders to understand their research and statistical needs to improve their business operations
- Collect, process, retrieve and analyze data to produce and disseminate quality information products which are appropriate and useful during planning and decision-making processes
- Provide technical advice and all other statistical services.

- Accuracy - Our indicators measures what is intended (validity and relevance)
- Reliability - Our tools and indicators are consistent and comparable
- Completeness - All counts are included
- Timeliness - Our data/indicators are up to date and on time
- Integrity - Our data is protected from deliberate manipulation or bias (honesty)
- Confidentiality - Our clients raw data is strictly protected and/or anonymised
