From Windhoek to Huelva
… Expanding Horizons in Academic Collaboration
In a step towards strengthening international academic collaboration, a delegation of ten staff members travelled to Spain to attend the 2025 International Partnership Week hosted by the University of Huelva (UHU). The week-long event brought together faculty members, researchers, and administrators from across the globe to engage in knowledge exchange, benchmarking, capacity building, and institutional networking.
NUST’s participation in this gathering, underscores the university’s continued commitment to fostering global linkages, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and broadening academic opportunities through its Erasmus+ partnerships. The delegation, comprising members from diverse faculties and administrative departments, actively engaged in discussions, workshops, presentations, and cultural immersion throughout the week.
“This exposure to international best practices not only enhances individual skills but also contributes to the overall growth of the Institution as a globally competitive institution,” reflected Nashilongo Gervasius, Acting Director of the Department of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation, who formed part of the delegation.
For Majory Mukasa, Manager: Talent Acquisition and Remuneration, the visit provided meaningful insights to advance the university’s strategic vision. “The University of Huelva’s structured human resources practices, including their gender-sensitive policies and emphasis on academic excellence, offer valuable benchmarks for NUST. These models could inform our efforts to enhance staff wellbeing, retention, and inclusivity,” she explained.
Mukasa further highlighted concrete opportunities identified during the week, such as student and staff exchanges, joint research projects in areas like renewable energy and inclusive education, and even potential dual-degree pathways. She noted that UHU’s emphasis on language readiness also underscored the importance of preparing staff and students for international mobility.
NUST’s strengths were equally recognised. International peers praised the university’s applied research focus, community engagement, and innovative Staff Development Fellow model, which was seen as a scalable approach to academic capacity building.
