NUST Upholds Commitment to Quality Enhancement through Internal Quality Audits
NUST recently concluded a quality audit of one of its key departments, the Digital Transformation Business Service (DTBS). The audit took place from 23 to 25 September 2024, at the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS). The quality assurance philosophy at NUST is built on the understanding that for the university to become a credible institution and a competitive leader in higher education— nationally, regionally, and globally—it must develop and manage sustainable quality management systems that are driven internally, rather than externally. Accordingly, the audit was a scheduled part of the university's regulatory policies, processes, and procedures.
“The focus of the quality audit is typically on evaluating the services provided by the university to both its internal and external stakeholders”, remarked, Ms Himeesora Kaimu, Director of Quality Assurance at NUST. The process includes the engagement of peers from similar institutions.
The exercise brought together a panel of peer reviewers, consisting of quality assurance practitioners and IT industry experts from across the continent. “Quality audits are recognised as essential management tools for assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of its quality systems. The outcomes of these audits provide the university with critical feedback on what is working and what needs improvement, as well as on appropriate measures to address identified challenges” stated, Prof Lumkile Lalendle, Chairperson of the audit panel and Executive Director of Planning and Quality Assurance at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
