NUST introduces postgraduate walk of achievement

To create a platform for former students to leave a lasting mark on the campus grounds, the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), has introduced an initiative that emulates the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The alumni have the opportunity to have their names inscribed on a brick as a permanent tribute to their academic achievements.

“Alumni are important ambassadors for the institution and thus it is important to maintain a relationship with them even after they have left the Institution. The Postgraduate Walk of Achievement will be one of many initiatives to support the efforts made at the Institution to strengthen relations with this key population,” said Dr Anna Matros-Goreses, the Executive Director of the Directorate of Research Innovation and Partnerships (DRIP).

Furthermore, the initiative, targeted at Master’s and Doctoral candidates is a drive to raise funds for postgraduate activities. The Postgraduate Development Centre, housed at the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS), strives to bring together students from all Faculties, encouraging transdisciplinary research and innovation. The main objective of the Centre is to provide a one-stop-information hub supporting postgraduate student development.

Matros-Goreses added that whilst the University will use the upcoming graduation ceremony to promote the project, all qualifying NUST alumni are encouraged to visit the University’s website to purchase a brick and mark their academic journey in this memorable way. The NUST April graduation ceremony is due to take place on 25 and 26 April 2024 in Windhoek, with another one slated for 3 May at the University’s Eenhana campus in the Ohangwena Region.
