NUST and Outapi Town Council empowers cultural preservation and educational advancement
The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the Outapi Town Council (OTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Olufuko Annual Cultural Festival (OACF) 2024. This agreement aims to promote cultural exchange, educational collaboration, and technical support between the two entities, heralding a new era of cooperation and development.
NUST Vice-Chancellor, Dr Erold Naomab, highlighted the importance of the agreement, emphasising the role of research and technology in cultural preservation. "NUST has a moral duty to preserve our culture through research and technology advancement. This MoU empowers us to enhance the Olufuko Festival and ensure our libraries are equipped with documented cultural knowledge. Culture evolves, and it is our responsibility to support this evolution through research and innovation," he remarked.
The Olufuko Festival, a cornerstone of Namibian culture, celebrates traditional ceremonies and showcases local arts, crafts, and performances. This festival not only preserves but also revitalises the rich cultural heritage of the region, making the partnership between NUST and OTC particularly significant.
The partnership is expected to bring long-term benefits to both entities and the broader community. By leveraging each other's strengths and resources, NUST and OTC aim to create a model of successful collaboration that can be replicated in other regions. This MoU marks the beginning of a journey towards sustainable development, cultural preservation, and educational excellence.
