The event recognised staff members who exemplified exceptional service, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to DRIP’s core values throughout the year.
Prof Omotayo Awofolu, Director of Research and Postgraduate Development, received the Research and Innovation Service Excellence (RISE) Award for his exemplary leadership in strengthening postgraduate research systems and advancing the University’s research culture. Reflecting on the honour, Prof Awofolu said, “This award is a humbling reminder that service excellence is a collective effort. I am proud to contribute to an environment where research thrives through teamwork, innovation, and commitment.”
Mr Silas Newaka, Manager of Entrepreneurial Development in the Department of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, received the Excellence in Collaborative Efforts Award for championing cross-departmental partnerships and strengthening NUST’s innovation ecosystem. His work has fostered impactful collaborations that support student entrepreneurship and industry engagement.
The DRIP Values Award was presented to Mr Nigel M’kwaira, Science and Innovation Communication Specialist, for consistently demonstrating the Directorate’s values through strategic engagements, reliable support, and efforts that enhance institutional visibility. Mr M’kwaira noted, “I am grateful to serve a team that believes in the power of amplifying impact across all walks of life.”
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of DRIP, Dr Anna Matros-Goreses, highlighted the importance of recognising excellence, stating, “These awards celebrate individuals who help position NUST as a leading institution in research and innovation. Their dedication reflects the values we strive to uphold as a Directorate and as a University.” She further emphasised that DRIPers should confidently own their space.
Looking ahead to 2026, DRIP remains committed to delivering responsive, impactful, and community-centred services that empower NUST’s staff and students. Through continued investment in people, partnerships, and processes, the Directorate will strengthen its role as a catalyst for research excellence, innovation, and meaningful engagement within and beyond the University.
