Against all Odds
How Adora graduated despite severe health challenges
Adora Kavepura Katuuo, recently earned her Bachelor of Criminal Justice Honours degree from NUST, a remarkable feat made all the more inspiring by the immense challenges she faced along the way.
Diagnosed with a debilitating autoimmune disease that attacks her nervous system and limits her mobility, Adora spent the past year juggling coursework, a full-time career, and relentless health struggles. “Block classes helped me to align my work with studies, but not without sacrifices. I frequently spent weekends studying late into the night in severe pain,” she recalls.
Yet, even in the face of such adversity, she finds solace in her faith, family, and friends. “Listening and singing along to worship music brings me hope, strength, and courage,” she explains, expressing gratitude for her mother and close friends who have been pillars of support. Adora acknowledges their role in helping her persevere, stating, “They cried, prayed, and kept me going when I felt my world was crashing down.”
Adora's experiences have given her a deep empathy for others and a passion for advocating for children, particularly those with disabilities. "Not every disability is visible, so let us spread kindness to one another. Kindness should not be selective but inclusive to everyone," she says.
Adora is currently employed as an auditor. NUST offers qualifications in Criminal Justice under the Faculty of Commerce, Human Sciences and Education.
