A Parade for a Decade of Eminence
City police escorts, a fire truck, live streaming, music, and an abundance of enthusiasm set the tone earlier this week as NUSTodians brought the streets of Windhoek to a standstill. Staff and students painted the town blue in a vibrant street parade to celebrate a decade since NUST's transition from the Polytechnic of Namibia to a full-fledged university. The event also marked the official commencement of the 2025 academic year.

Driver of National Development
In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Erold Naomab reflected on NUST's remarkable journey over the past ten years, highlighting its transformation into a globally competitive institution. “NUST is not ordinary. We are an exceptional, world-class university, and we are the most sought-after in Namibia,” he declared proudly. Prof Naomab emphasised key achievements, including a significant increase in research output, student enrolment, and industry partnerships.
He noted that NUST has produced over 7 000 science and engineering graduates, expanded its STEM-based academic programmess, and secured more than N$1 billion in research funding over the past five years. “Our university continues to be a key driver of national development, shaping the future through innovation and excellence,” he affirmed.
New Campus
A major highlight of his speech was the announcement of a new NUST campus in Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for innovation and learning, featuring modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, collaborative spaces, and enhanced student support services. Prof Naomab underscored that this expansion is a significant investment in Namibia’s youth, further solidifying NUST’s role in both national and regional development.
Adding to the excitement, SRC President Michee Masengo extended a warm welcome to students, emphasising their role in shaping the university’s future. “As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, let us remember that excellence is not a skill; it is an attitude. Every challenge is an opportunity to rise,” he encouraged. He also introduced the newly elected SRC Council, reaffirming their commitment to student leadership and academic success.
The day-long event featured exhibitions, games, and virtual reality experiences, providing an engaging atmosphere for the campus community.
