NUST to Confer Honorary Doctorate on UN Tourism Secretary-General
An Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (honoris causa) degree in Tourism Management will be conferred upon Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The prestigious recognition, announced last week by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Erold Naomab, celebrates Mr Pololikashvili’s exceptional contributions to global tourism and his visionary leadership in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism development.
This honorary doctorate underscores NUST’s commitment to honouring global pioneers whose work aligns with the University’s mission of advancing sustainable development through science and technology. The degree will be conferred at NUST’s upcoming May 2025 graduation ceremony in Windhoek.
The announcement was made during a public lecture by Mr Pololikashvili at NUST, titled ‘Sustainable Tourism in Africa: Harnessing Technology, Inclusion, and Heritage for a Resilient Future.’ The event brought together key tourism stakeholders, academics, and students, sparking pertinent discussions on shaping a more sustainable and universally accessible tourism industry.
