Introducing the New PhD in Applied Linguistics by Research at NUST
PhD in Applied Linguistics Programme [NQF level 10]
Advance Your Scholarship and Research in Applied Linguistics
Programme Overview:
The PhD in Applied Linguistics by Research at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in order to investigate, design, and conduct independent research of applied nature, in any area of Applied Linguistics. PhD candidates will be able to develop and apply advanced research methods and techniques and deal with a sophisticated problem connected with the topic of interest. In context, students will be exposed to specific advanced language research methodologies, procedures, theories, and principles. The PhD thesis will encourage students to identify real-life language problems in the Namibian and African contexts and beyond, that will receive workable solutions through research findings and propose evidence-based solutions. Thus, the research output, in the form of a thesis, will contribute meaningfully and substantially to the existing body of knowledge in Applied Linguistics through the comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation of the existing knowledge in Applied Linguistics.
Programme Highlights:
- Integrated Scholarship: engage in objective, systemic and comprehensive research experience that can leverage modern technologies including Linguistics Artificial Intelligence.
- Monthly Research Seminars: experts and candidates of Applied Linguistics and Research Methodologies will be invited to deliver seminars on their areas of research and share their experiences.
- Research-Focused Learning: undertake research that contributes to the body of knowledge in Applied Linguistics and can enhance critical analytical skills.
- Research Ethics: exhibit professional competencies of independent self-guided research, problem-solving, innovation, process evaluation, responsibility, accountability, and general ethics.
