Eslon Levels Up with Bloomberg Certification
Eslon Ngeendepi, a lecturer from the Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance, recently obtained a Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification — a globally recognised qualification that blends academic theory with real-world financial practice. Officially launched in March this year, the Bloomberg Finance Lab on campus is a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing financial education and market intelligence in Namibia.
Ngeendepi said his motivation stemmed from the need for quality financial data and analytical tools in his PhD studies. “The certification bridges the gap between academic theory and practical market tools,” he explained. “It allows me to bring live market analytics into lectures, guide research with stronger data foundations, and simulate real financial scenarios in class.”
He plans to use Bloomberg’s technology to give students hands-on exposure to global market trends. “Students will be able to analyse data, simulate portfolios, and test hypotheses using real market information,” he added. “This experience not only enhances employability but also develops critical thinking, analytical skills, and financial literacy — all key graduate attributes for Namibia’s growing financial sector.”
Arinze Okafor, Founder and CEO of the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy (NIFA), applauded Ngeendepi’s achievement, describing it as a catalyst for advancing Namibia’s financial education. “For a lecturer at NUST, this type of training is transformative; it enhances teaching, research capacity, and the integration of global data into classrooms,” he said. “At a national level, Bloomberg certifications and the Lab represent a strategic opportunity to accelerate Namibia’s financial literacy and inclusion goals.”
Okafor added that such globally recognised credentials align perfectly with government efforts to expand tertiary education access. “They equip our youth and professionals with market-ready skills without needing to study abroad,” he noted.
The Bloomberg Financial Lab is the result of a strategic partnership between NUST, MTC, and NIFA, with support from RMB Namibia.
