The 10th SRC President in NUST’s 10th Anniversary Year
Michee Kashale Masengo, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has become the University’s 10th Student Representative Council (SRC) President, an appointment that coincides with the university’s 10th year anniversary. To top it off, he is the first international student to be at the helm of the institution SRC.
Balancing Engineering and Leadership
Michee’s journey reflects a blend of academic excellence and leadership. After joining the Engineering Bridging Course in 2021, he quickly emerged as an active leader, serving as the SRC Academic Affairs Representative in 2023. In 2024, he established the NUST Mechanical Engineering Society (MES), aiming to foster a knowledge-driven environment. “Leadership is about service, transparency, and learning,” Michee shares. His faith influences this philosophy, guiding his commitment to inclusive leadership.

Priority Areas
With NUST’s student population growing exponentially, Michee recognises the urgent need for infrastructural improvements. His administration is focused on bettering Wi-Fi connectivity and accessibility, enhancing study spaces, and working with management for sustainable solutions. “We must listen to students and act on their concerns,” he states.
Mental health is another priority for Michee. He has introduced an SRC suggestion box to facilitate student feedback and plans to collaborate with Student Services to create mental health workshops and awareness.
Strengthening Student Engagement
Michee envisions a proactive student body. “It’s about collaboration, engagement, and creating a well-rounded university experience,” he says. He champions student involvement in societies, sports, and cultural activities, aiming for both academic success and social fulfilment.
A Call to Action
Michee’s call to students is clear: “Take charge of your journey, engage meaningfully, and never underestimate your potential.” His presidency promises to challenge the status quo, leaving a legacy of accountability, inclusivity, and transformative leadership.
