"Where you come from does not determine your destiny" - Simeon Says
He grew up in Omangundu village in the Oshana Region of northern Namibia, where he completed his primary education before attending Ekulo Senior Secondary School. Shortly after 2018, his academic plans were disrupted when he failed English, forcing him to put his dream of further studies on hold. Life then shifted into survival, as he worked in construction and later joined Oshana Security in 2022 to sustain himself. That same year, he rewrote and passed English, a small but decisive breakthrough that reopened the door to university education.
This is Simeon Petrus’s story, a NUST alumnus who obtained a Bachelor of Transport Management degree at the just-ended Eenhana Graduation Ceremony. His journey reflects a steady rise shaped by early academic setbacks, financial hardship, and consistent dedication to completing his studies against the odds.
Resilience Under Pressure
In 2023, Simeon registered at the Eenhana Campus, but due to financial constraints, he constantly made sacrifices to remain in school. At times, he supported himself by assisting fellow students academically and offering tutoring services to meet basic needs such as food, transport, and learning materials. Despite these pressures, he remained focused and committed to his studies.
His perseverance was reflected in academic excellence when he was named the Best Transport Management Student in Namibia at NUST in 2023.
From Local Struggle to Global Exposure
A defining moment in his academic journey came during his final year when he was selected to represent both NUST and Namibia at an international transport project competition in Russia, hosted by the Russian University of Transport in collaboration with FESCO Transport Group.
It was an experience that marked a transition from personal struggle to international academic engagement. Simeon graduated without failing a single module, a milestone that reflects discipline, consistency, and determination under pressure.
“My story is proof that where you come from does not determine your destiny. No matter the struggles, delays, failures, or hardships, never stop believing in yourself and never stop pushing forward,” he reflects.
