They Saw a Limitation. Amy Saw a Future.
...Bigger Than Her Surroundings
Born and raised in Schlip, a small rural town in the Hardap region, Amy Andrew often felt that her dreams were much bigger than her surroundings. At just the age of six months, she underwent her first surgery that severely injured her left eye following an eye condition she was born with.

“Growing up, some people doubted me because of my eye condition. Perhaps they saw my limitations before they saw my potential,” she recalled. In 2019, she underwent another operation, but the outcome was mixed. Then, during her second year at NUST in 2025, an unforeseen accident caused further damage, resulting in a fractured lens.

Andrew’s journey was not an easy one. On difficult days she faced health challenges and moments where she questioned whether she could continue. “I used to struggle with severe anxiety and a fear of the outside world,” she said while highlighting the pivotal role the NUST community played in shaping her journey. “The support I received from NUST and the Rössing Foundation became an important part of my story. They invested in a future they saw in me, even when I could not always see it clearly myself.”

As she prepares to graduate with a Bachelor of Business and Information Administration, Andrew can look back on an impressive three-year journey marked by determination, having passed every examination and completed every course required for her degree. “I come from a small rural town where people once questioned whether I would even make it through primary school. Now, I will graduate from NUST. A testimony that God can take a life others may have underestimated and lead it further than they imagined,” a proud NUSTodian boasted.
