Re-imagining technology through NUST’s ETNCC conference

The 2024 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Networks and Computer Communications (ETNCC) at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) is set to be a pivotal event that bridges the gap between academia and industry. This annual conference, now in its fourth year, has become a key platform for fostering collaboration and innovation in the fields of high-performance computing and network communications.

At the Official Opening of ETNCC, Dr Erold Naomab, NUST Vice-Chancellor, emphasised the conference’s role as a forum for participants to present papers, network for future collaborations, publish, socialise, and discover the latest advancements. Additionally, he highlighed that the core focus of the conference will be on “proposing new technologies, sharing experiences, and discussing future solutions for designing the wired and wireless network, high-performance computing, emerging and intelligent computing, smart communication and networking, IoT automation, vehicle communication, artificial intelligence, edge computing, blockchain and cybersecurity among others.” This comprehensive agenda reflects the conference's commitment to addressing the most pressing issues and opportunities in these rapidly evolving fields.

During his remarks, Prof Dharm Singh Jat, organiser of ETNCC, encouraged participants to engage some of the standout feature of ETNCC 2024. “The workshop consists of presentations by five notable experts and discussions in each area of High-Performance Computing and nanotechnology. A Distinguished Speaker Session will also be organised at the conference featuring five eminent speakers from Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, and India,” he said, while adding that the workshop aims to explore the intersection of advanced computing technologies and their applications in real-world scenarios, such as coastal modelling, which is increasingly important in the context of climate change and environmental sustainability.

The conference serves as a crucial platform for re-imagining the role of technology in industry and society. Dr Licky Erastus, Managing Director of MTC, underscored the dynamic nature of networks and computer communications and the challenges they present. “Networks and Computer Communications are the backbone of the industry and are dynamic in nature. The challenges facing these include efficient service solutions, innovative start-ups, and underdeveloped IT infrastructure, which require national and international partnerships and collaboration. ETNCC 2024 conference is a chance to explore how digital innovation can help connect everyone and unlock sustainable prosperity for all. With the ongoing rise in network security threats stemming from the Internet of Things (IoT), the attack surface broadens, and network heterogeneity grows, rendering future network protection more complex and challenging."

ETNCC 2024 brought together over 200 participants from 23 countries, fostering a global dialogue on these critical issues. The hybrid format of the conference, accommodating both in-person and virtual attendees, ensures broad accessibility and engagement, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives. This event is not just a showcase of technological advancements but also a call to action for building stronger, more resilient digital infrastructures that can support the sustainable development and prosperity of all.
