NUST Showcases Otavi Agricultural Campus Vision in China

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), Professor Andrew Niikondo, presented the University’s strategic roadmap for the development of the Otavi Agricultural Campus during the China-Namibia Education and Innovation Cooperation Seminar held at the China University of Geosciences in Beijing, China.

The seminar formed part of side events to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s official State Visit to the People’s Republic of China and brought together higher education leaders, government representatives and industry partners to strengthen academic and innovation cooperation between the two countries.

In his address, Professor Niikondo highlighted Namibia’s agricultural potential and the sector’s strategic importance to sustainable national development. He called on Chinese higher education institutions, research organisations and industry partners to collaborate with NUST in advancing agricultural education, research, innovation and technology transfer through the Otavi Agricultural Campus, creating shared opportunities that support the development priorities of both Namibia and China.

The seminar was also addressed by the Honourable Sanet Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, and Mr Yalin Lei, Party Secretary of the China University of Geosciences.

Professor Niikondo is joined by the NUST delegation comprising the Director of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation, the Director of Satellite Campuses, the Head of Department of Agriculture, and the University’s Chief Legal Adviser.

During the visit, the NUST delegation has been engaging universities and industry partners in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Beijing to strengthen strategic partnerships in research, innovation, academic collaboration and institutional development.
