NUST Graduate of 2024 attains Vice-Chancellor Awardee status

The world of cybersecurity is in a perpetual state of evolution, with new challenges and opportunities emerging at every turn. In this rapidly changing landscape, individuals like Verry Tangeni Ndasilohenda Awene are setting the pace, showcasing innovation, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

Awene's journey from the rural community of Rupara in the Kavango West Region to becoming a Vice-Chancellor Awardee and graduate of NUST in 2024, is a testament to the power of resilience and unwavering support. Raised by his single mother in this close-knit community, he learned the values of perseverance and determination from an early age. His mother's dedication and belief in his potential were instrumental in shaping his character and instilling in him the values that would guide his path to success.

From his early years at Rukonga Vision School, Awene displayed a natural curiosity and aptitude for technology. His passion for cybersecurity was ignited during these formative years, laying the foundation for his future studies and career aspirations.

Transitioning to NUST, Awene's commitment to excellence was evident, leading to his exceptional performance and eventual recognition with the Vice-Chancellor’s Award. This prestigious honour is a reflection of his dedication, innovative mindset, and potential to make a significant impact in the field of cybersecurity. What made this year's Vice-Chancellor’s Award special, was its bestowment on the day of his graduation.

Throughout his time at NUST, Awene faced challenges head-on, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility in the face of adversity. His ability to steer virtual collaborations during the COVID-19 pandemic further honed his problem-solving skills and prepared him to tackle the complex cybersecurity challenges of today and tomorrow.

Inspired by NUST's emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship, Awene and his peers are poised to revolutionise the cybersecurity landscape. Their vision extends beyond traditional boundaries, focusing on leveraging technology to create a safer, more secure digital environment for all.

In retrospection of his journey, Awene imparts invaluable guidance to his peers graduating alongside him and those aspiring to pursue careers in cybersecurity. “Put God first in everything you do. Strive for excellence, respect others, dream big, and never stop learning.” As he embarks on the next chapter of his journey armed with knowledge, determination, and a vision for a brighter digital future, his story serves as an inspiration to all, proving that with determination, innovation, and a strong support system, anything is possible.
