NUST FM Reinvents Sound in in Kavango West

In recognition of World Radio Day, NUST FM spent the week-long celebration engaging the Kavango West community through innovative initiatives. The activities were held together with key stakeholders such as the NBC and the Ministry of information and Communication Technology, that led the celebrations.

As one of the most inclusive media platforms, radio remains a vital source of information, education, and social cohesion, particularly in rural and underserved communities where access to digital media may be limited. Special focus was placed on Nkurenkuru, Rundu, and Mururani in commemoration of this global observance. “World Radio Day continues to serve as a powerful reminder of radio’s enduring role as a trusted, accessible, and transformative medium of communication,” elaborated Undamuye Namwandi, NUST FM Station Manager.

Exploring Radio and Telephones

The objective of the initiative was to sensitise communities on the importance of radio and its continued contribution to the global communication landscape. Throughout the week, NUST FM actively participated in community dialogues, educational sessions, and interactive engagements aimed at highlighting how radio empowers voices, preserves local culture, and supports democratic participation.

The Station also utilised the platform to reaffirm its mandate of innovation, education, and community service. emphasised the “It is pivotal to equip young broadcasters and communities with digital and AI-related skills to ensure that radio remains relevant and competitive in a rapidly changing media environment,” explained Vivian Kandetu, NUST FM Communications Manager. She further illustrated that this process should not be deemed as a replacement for human creativity, but rather as an enabler that can strengthen efficiency, broaden reach, and improve content quality.

Through initiatives such as these, the campus radio station continues to position itself as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and media innovation in Namibia.
