NUST alumna competes on global stage in Financial Security
Marcious Muyoba, a NUST graduate in Culinary Arts from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, is making waves far beyond the kitchen. She’s now heading to Sochi, Russia, to compete in the prestigious International Olympiad on Financial Security in the International Relations category.
Muyoba, a passionate NUST alumna with a taste for global experiences, previously represented NUST on a student exchange to Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Ravensburg, where she honed her culinary skills during an academic semester abroad. Her leap from the world of culinary arts to the financial security arena wasn't by chance; it was a deliberate, bold choice.
Dr Isobel Manuel, Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at NUST, explained how this shift aligns with the broader goals of the programme. “Culinary arts is a discipline that seeks to foster a culture of entrepreneurship, and as such, for students to be exposed to matters of financial literacy and security equips them to better understand the financial landscape once they embark on their entrepreneurial journey in culinary arts.”
Her advice to others? “Jump in! Don’t let doubt hold you back. If I’d listened to that little voice saying, ‘A Culinary Arts student doesn’t belong in Financial Security,’ I wouldn’t be here today.”
