Nature-Inspired Optimisation Algorithms: Advances and Applications in Healthcare Systems
Biography
Prof Michael Mutingi received his DEng in Engineering Management from the University of Johannesburg 2016. Prio to that, he received a MEng Industrial Engineering in 1998 and a BEng in Industrial Engineering in 2004, both from the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe.
Beginning his career in 1999, Prof Mutingi served as a Research Fellow at the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe, and as a Research Associate at the National University of Singapore. He has played a pivotal role as a researcher in industry projects. Prior to joining the Namibia University of Science and Technology in 2014, he also served as a Lecturer at the University of Botswana.
Prof Mutingi is currently a Professor of Industrial Engineering at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. His research interests are both inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary, with a strong focus on such areas as (i) bio-inspired metaheuristic optimisation and simulation modelling, (ii) healthcare operations management, (iii) lean manufacturing and service systems, (iv) supply chain modelling, (v) industrial digital transformation, and (vi) energy policy modelling. Throughout his academic career, Professor Mutingi has demonstrated a deep commitment to research and postgraduate education. He has successfully supervised over 100 postgraduate students, including 4 PhD students, and continues to mentor emerging scholars in various areas of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. In addition to his teaching and research roles, he contributes to academic quality assurance as an external examiner in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management for several universities.
In his research journey, Prof Mutingi has received several research awards, including best paper awards at international conferences, including the 2013 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management in Hong Kong, the 2014 World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science in San Francisco, and the 2017 Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Conference, UK. He has authored 3 books and more than 120 articles in reputable international journals and conference proceedings.
