ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION AND SMART MOBILITY SOLUTIONS - “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

Brief Background

Professor Adewole Simon Oladele holds a PhD in Civil Engineering, specialising in Transportation. He conducts research and teaches courses related to civil and transportation engineering, as well as sustainable development. With over 23 years of professional experience in Civil and Transportation Engineering, his expertise spans sustainable transportation, smart mobility, pavement performance modelling using artificial intelligence (AI), project management, and innovation. Since 2004, he has successfully taught more than 30 courses and supervised numerous research projects, including PhD theses, Master’s dissertations, and undergraduate projects.

Research Interests

His research interests lie in transportation engineering, with particular expertise in highways, pavements, sustainable infrastructure, transportation planning, traffic operations, mobility solutions, transportation network analysis and optimisation, intelligent transportation systems, smart cities, highway and traffic engineering, construction project management, maintenance optimisation, and infrastructure performance modelling using AI applications.

Publication Impact

Professor Oladele has published forty-seven (47) peer-reviewed works to date, including eighteen (18) journal articles and twenty-nine (29) papers in international conference proceedings. He has participated in over forty-one (41) international conferences and meetings across the USA, Australia, Switzerland, Italy, China, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia.

Professional Registration

He is a COREN Registered Engineer and a member of several professional bodies, including the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Botswana Institution of Engineers (BIE), and the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

Employment Record

Professor Oladele currently serves as Professor of Transportation Engineering at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), Namibia, since 2025. His previous roles include:

Family Life

He is happily married to Dr (Mrs) Adewumi F. Oladele, and they are blessed with a brilliant daughter.
