National Energy Affordability
Survey in Namibia
No one should be left in the dark
Dates: 07 - 31 October 2024
The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), through the Namibia Energy Institute and EED-Advisory (EED) will be conducting a National Energy Affordability Survey i n all 14 regions of Namibia. The survey will be conducted on behalf of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), as part of the Ministry’s collaboration with the World Bank.
Objectives
The survey aims to understand energy access and affordability across the country, in order to assess the energy access at household, community, public institution, and enterprise levels. This initiative is crucial for achieving Namibia’s goal on universal electricity access by 2040.
The Process
Data on energy access, affordability, and off-grid solar solutions for households, communities, public institutions, and enterprises will be gathered. Field teams will visit households, schools, community leaders and health facilities to conduct interviews.
This is a sample survey, therefore certain areas (171 enumeration areas) are selected and from each area 20 households will be interviewed to represent the selected area. Furthermore, teams will also visit enterprises, such as manufacturing, services, and agro-processing sectors and conduct interviews.
Interviews will also be conducted with off-grid solutions suppliers/financiers/cooking solution suppliers through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Monitoring of Household Air Pollution (HAP) will also take place after completion of the survey.
Identifying Enumerators
Enumerators (supervisors and interviewers) will be wearing their identification badges with their names, in addition to T-shirts with MME, NEI and EED logos.
NOTE: All sampled households and institutions are urged to participate and cooperate in the upcoming Energy Survey to make it a success.
