From STEM Student to National STEM Ambassador
For NUST Bachelor of Computer Science student, Auwanga Enkali, science is about more than what happens in a laboratory. It is about inspiring others, solving real-world problems and showing young Namibians where a future in STEM can take them. The NUST student was recently crowned Mr STEM Namibia 2026 through the Mr & Ms STEM Namibia programme, an initiative supported by the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST).
Launched to celebrate and empower passionate young Namibians in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the competition is open to STEM students aged 18 to 25. Beyond the title, the programme seeks to identify young leaders who can serve as national ambassadors for STEM through science communication, community engagement and the promotion of STEM careers.
For Enkali, the title comes with a clear purpose. “It’s an ambassadorial role focused on promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics among young people.”
As Mr STEM Namibia 2026, Enkali will promote STEM, inspire learners to pursue careers in science and innovation, showcase Namibian STEM talent and represent STEM at schools, events and public engagements. He will also encourage young people to use STEM to tackle real-world challenges while serving as a role model to the next generation of Namibian innovators.
The programme’s broader vision is to shift perceptions of STEM and demonstrate that science extends beyond laboratories, requiring leadership, creativity, problem-solving and effective communication.
