Public Lecture - Sport in Austria: Behind the Scenes
Improving performance of elite athletes from across different sports disciplines requires a systematic approach and cutting-edge strategies. Arriving at this point requires a scientific approach, one which has research as the foundation on which all interventions are built. The Sports Science Laboratory (SpoSciLab) at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences (FH Joanneum), Austria, undertakes research in applied training sciences, with a primary focus on training schedule optimisation. The first segment of this public lecture looks at the SpoSciLab and answers the “how” and “what” questions of this session.
Sport is a global phenomenon, but the organisational forms and structures of sports authorities and oversight bodies often differ significantly between countries. The second part of this session will focus on how sport is financed and organised in Austria. It provides insight in the support system for young Austrian athletes.
