NUST Staff Participate in Erasmus+ Training in Lithuania
Two staff members, Helena Shipanga and Cindy van Wyk recently represented NUST at a five-day Erasmus+ Staff Training Week hosted by Vilnius University in Lithuania. The visit was facilitated by NUST’s International Relations Office, under the Department of Corporate Engagement and Internationalisation (CEI).
Helena is a Senior Business Development Coordinator: Entrepreneurship Development Academy at the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business, while Cindy is NUST’s Public Relations Officer at CEI.
University staff from across the globe, including Montenegro, Georgia, Germany, Jordan, and Ukraine took part in the programme. Highlights included a workshop on Strategic International Communication led by Lina Hörügel from Leipzig University, a lecture on the aging brain by Prof Osvaldas Ruksenas, who made complex neuroscience accessible and engaging, and a tour of Lukiskes Prison a former detention facility that has since been transformed into a creative hub.
Participants also visited the city of Kaunas and spent an insightful afternoon at Science Island, Lithuania’s first science and innovation promotion centre.

While in Vilnius, Helena and Cindy spent time with Ashleigh Chabvuta and Eleanor Linno, NUST students currently completing a semester in Lithuania.
The week underscored NUST’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its international footprint and enriching the global perspectives of its staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and innovation.
“On behalf of Helena and myself, I would like to thank NUST, the Erasmus+ programme, and Vilnius University for the opportunity, the warm hospitality, and an unforgettable experience," Cindy said with excitement.
