NUST and Keetmanshoop Municipality Partner on Land and Property Policy
A well-planned town begins with how it manages its land and property. NUST, through its Institute for Land, Livelihoods and Housing (ILLH), is supporting this process in Keetmanshoop through a consultancy to develop a Comprehensive Land and Property Policy for the municipality. The project recently took its first step with an inception meeting between NUST and the Keetmanshoop Municipality, setting the stage for work towards a more structured approach to land and property management.
The project kick-off meeting brought both organisations’ technical teams together to align expectations, the scope and milestones. The expected policy will guide municipal land and property development and management in Keetmanshoop.
The meeting included the signing of a consultancy agreement, with Celeste Espach, Associate Dean in the School of the Built Environment, representing Prof Harmony Musiyarira, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. Representing the Keetmanshoop Municipality, Acting CEO Gregorius Donovan Andries reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to effective land management and future development planning. He emphasised that “strong land and property policies are essential for creating orderly, inclusive and sustainable urban development in Keetmanshoop.”
Representing NUST’s project team, Dr Jennilee Kohima from the Department of Architecture, Planning and Construction, noted that “through this partnership, NUST is pleased to contribute its research and technical expertise towards strengthening local land governance.”
ILLH is a research institute in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. The partnership reflects NUST’s research and technical support for addressing Namibia’s local development challenges.
