Proudly Part of the UN’s Prestigious Geospatial Network!
NUST has been officially admitted into the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) Academic Network. This marks a significant achievement for the University and places NUST among leading global institutions advancing research and education in geospatial science and technology.
With this admission, NUST becomes the second institution in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to be part of the Network, alongside the University of Pretoria in South Africa. This milestone highlights the growing recognition of NUST’s contributions to geospatial research, innovation, and capacity development in Africa and beyond.
Through its membership, NUST will actively contribute to international initiatives that promote the use of geospatial information for sustainable development. The University will also benefit from enhanced collaboration, knowledge exchange, and visibility within the global geospatial community.
Prof Oluibukun Ajayi, who serves as the institutional point of contact, emphasised that this achievement presents opportunities for both staff and students to engage more deeply with international partners in shaping the future of geospatial science and intelligence.
This recognition strengthens NUST’s position as a hub of geospatial expertise in the region and affirms its commitment to research, innovation, and global engagement.
