The establishment of a Reading and Writing Support Unit is associated with the envisaged Academic Support Centre and provides supplemental English instruction to promote student success across the curriculum. This Writing Centre offers targeted writing workshops, and train and use tutors to offer individualized consultations with students to improve writing across the curriculum.
(i) Mission Statement
The writing centre aims to help all members of the Namibia University of Science and Technology community improve their writing. The centre provides a supportive and motivating environment where members of the Namibia University of Science and Technology community can discuss their work with a trained consultant and receive help at any stage in the writing process. Through one-to-one consultations, clients are able to share their work with a trustworthy professional, receive advice and guidance on improving their work and develop their skills as writers for academic purposes.
The writing center also aids instructors who want to incorporate writing into their courses. By providing support services for students, the centre eases the burden on instructors who assign writing in their courses. Instructors are able to refer struggling students to the writing centre for assistance or request workshops to address specific issues. Instructors may also consult the writing centre on how to develop writing assignments for their classes.

Tutoring : One-on-one or group tutoring at any level of writing
Referrals: Instructors can refer students to the Centre for assistance with writing
Research proposal/Writing: Assistance offered at any stage of proposal and research writing
